The Winn Dixie in Meridian was selling a smallish quantity of both hot and mild Hatch chiles last week, but raw only–they weren’t roasting them.
When & where will Mississipi be getting Hatch?
I haven’t heard anything from stores out there. Please send them my way if you hear anything!
I will be going to Meridian sometime in October to deliver two boxes (25 lbs. each) of Hatch green chili that I have already roasted and froze to relatives. On the way, I also will be delivering another box to my daughter in Lufkin Tx. I live in Alamogordo NM, and get my chili from Hatch, from the fields. Chili will be packed in quart size freezer rated zip-lock baggies. Frozen, then packed in ice for the trip. The chili that I get is hot, and not the mild crap that comes in a can. This chili that I get will make you want the ice cream to come out the next day to help in extinguishing the heat once you sit down and pass out what you ate last night.
Fresh Market in Ridgeland, Mississippi, roasts Hatch Chilis when they get them. August- September – they sell them by the pound roasted at the store or raw peppers.
